Loka
What is Loka is It a planet or something else, usual English miss-translation is a planet or another world. this is so because English has no experience or either understanding of Loka at least after Abrahamization or the one book binary culture they might have wiped off any experience of it , That is why the one god theology is at the root of many western ideas thou they have reformed it a long way but the binary logic still remains, and because of that it is very difficult to use words which can capture the experience of a seeker into a believers framework.
So what is loka it the root for the English word look or lokan in sanskrit that is seeing or watching it is also a word for people, That is Loka. We have fourteen lokas and our body has fourteen Chakras that is why we say "YAT PINDI TAT BHRAMANDE " that is what is in our body that is in this universe. It ultimately refers to awareness, That is we look at things on the basis of our ability to perceive or our thoughts this can be covered in our system of four logic and our four ways of deduction or understanding. so this is not only a place but that state of consciousness or awareness of those people or beings. which is not necessarily only attached to a place or realm for example we say during Ram Raja the earth was like swarghaloka (which is again not heaven) and during Kaliyuga the earth has become like Narka or Patala, which means that during Rams time the people of this planet had such high consciousness that whatever they looked at they saw beauty and hence their action was making the world beautiful and happy. While in Kali kala the consciousness has fallen so low that their ability too see that is their lokan or perception is full of malice so they bring more pain in this world and live in misery creating more of suffering. But at the same time, there are realms or places where a state like that of Ram Raja is still on. People are of higher consciousness, It is like how we say Americans are like that like hey seek clear agreements, they honor contracts and Japanese are like this that they are very punctual and love hygienic for an elementary example this can be Japanese Loka, Russians some other type like they are brave and strong so onn. and this is because of there perception or world view That is Lokan. Not just that even in kali kala you will find people who have that purity and higher consciousness even in this polluted environment and space, these people are also having a lokan or perception which is of a God that is Devta so their loka is also maybe Swarghaloka or something higher.
So all these 14 lokas are realm, not geo-location planet when we say higher lokas or lower lokas it not on top of earth or bottom of it as the earth is a spinning ball in space but it refers to the awareness or consciousness, yes I don't deny that it isn't a realm or place it is like Japanese people with their perception you will find in japan even if you have Japanese diaspora all across the world but Japan will have the highest number or almost all of the population will be of Japanese outlook in Japan and they will design the infrastructure and systems which makes this Japanese outlook blossom in Japan. In a similar way, swarghaloka will have things and systems and a higher density of beings with higher consciousness there. Why we call for Gatti or ability to get into that loka say visa to get there is to develop your consciousness or outlook or lokan which suits that loka or as what is your consciousness or outlook that loka one being might enter.
The fourteen Lokas we know are
